Thrill of the Hunt: Vol 5
This week's recap, a must-know fact about kids' swimsuits, thrifted finds, our family's favorite snack, deals worth noting, and a debate about... lightbulbs?
Hello and Happy Sunday, friends!
I hope you all had a great week. This time last week, we were on the way home from a quick trip to the beach (2.5 glorious days, to be exact) during which, I read TWO books. This may not seem like a big deal, but the luxury of having the time to read a physical book at my leisure is one that I haven’t enjoyed in, I don’t know— 10 years?
I read Happy Place by Emily Henry and Normal People by Sally Rooney. While I absolutely loved Happy Place, Normal People just wasn’t for me. I had very mixed reviews about the latter in my DMs, but the general consensus was that even if you didn’t enjoy the book, the TV series on Hulu was worth a watch. I’ve added it to my list!
A few other highlights from this week:
1.) My favorite beach read: Happy Place by Emily Henry
2.) I styled the Welsh plate rack from last week’s newsletter - see the reel here!
3.) My climbing roses are in full bloom! I spent 2 hours today tying them up. There are so many buds ready to pop!
4.) Wednesday at the Masters - ate my weight in sandwiches and tomato pie. Cried happy tears tonight watching Rory eek out a win tonight!
5.) A cart full of finds from a Monday morning thrift trip (see details below)
6.) A jaunt to the Home Depot garden center with my friend to save some money and make our own hanging baskets - except that we maybe actually didn’t save any money. TBD.
KIDS’ BATHING SUITS
While we were at the beach, I discussed briefly in stories what I look for in a bathing suit for kids. Personally, I prefer something with SPF, arm coverage (I have the world’s palest children) and something that’s colorful.
I saw this graphic on the internet a few years ago, and it’s stuck with me since. Unless my kids are wearing their neon life vests, I’m choosing a colorful swimsuit for them to wear so I make sure that I can see them in the water. You can find some of my favorite options here.
THIS WEEK’S FINDS
On Monday, before diving into the week’s meetings, I popped in to one of my favorite thrift stores for a quick look around and left with a cart full of finds.
1.) A rattan plant stand for $2.99
2.) Silver (likely plated) trays for $10 and $8, respectively. Can’t wait to give these a polish!
3.) An adorable engraved crumb catcher for $3
4.) Four beautifully framed etchings for $3.99 each - can’t wait to hang these with my collection!
What’s the lesson here? Go often! Even if you leave empty handed, a quick lap can lead to great scores!
Find anything great this week? Leave it in the comments below!
A SNACK YOU’LL WANT TO DEVOUR IN ONE SITTING
Let me be clear, this is not a health food - it’s merely delicious. I make this with both Cheezits and oyster crackers, and my family’s preference is split down the middle.
DEALS WORTH NOTING
The consensus in my DMs is that Banana Republic Factory is legit. Many of you loved this midi shirtdress ($28 in cart, be sure to size down) and this poplin mini dress ($15 in cart, also size down - plus, there’s a tall girl option!)
J Crew Factory’s megasale starts Wednesday, so keep an eye out. Use this link to shop and code SUNSHINE for extra savings. In the meantime, you can get 50% off of clearance (ends tonight!) using the code “DEAL50.” Some boys’ ties are $5 in cart - come on!!!
Bisby, my favorite Girls’ brand, just added new sale styles. When I tell you the designs are adorable and the quality is fantastic, I mean it. Use code ELIZA15 for an extra 15% off.
Lights Online, where we got the majority of our home’s lighting, has some great things on clearance right now, including this sconce that we almost used in our bedroom - now on super sale.
If you have babies (or babies to buy for), this adorable pointelle heart knit daygown is beyond precious and on mega sale. This piece is similar to my favorite ever pajamas (sadly not on sale, but you can use ELIZA15 for 15% off). This brand is near and dear to my heart and the quality is exceptional.
SETTLE THE DEBATE
My dear, dear friend and I are in a disagreement about… lightbulbs? Not a disagreement, per se (no friendships were harmed in this discussion) but, a squabble nonetheless.
She’s team cool-toned lightbulbs, because they “show the true color of things,” while I’m team warm-toned lightbulbs because I don’t want my house to look like a hospital.
What say you?
That’s all for now! As always, thank you so much for being here. If you enjoyed this, please consider forwarding it to a friend!
Rory!!
